Ferritin is a universal intracellular and extracellular protein that stores iron and releases it in a controlled fashion. The protein is produced by almost all living organisms, including archaea, bacteria, algae, higher plants, and animals. It is the primary intracellular iron-storage protein in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes, keeping iron in a soluble and non-toxic form. In humans, it acts as a buffer against iron deficiency and iron overload.Ferritin is found in most tissues as a cytosolic protein, but small amounts are secreted into the serum where it functions as an iron carrier.| Typical data
As the OD values of the standard curve may vary according to the conditions of the actual assay performance (e.g. operator, pipetting technique, wash technique or temperature effects), the operator should establish a standard curve for each test. Typical standard curve and data are provided below for reference only.Concentration (ng/mL) | 60 | 30 | 15 | 7.5 | 3.75 | 1.87 | 0.93 | 0 |
OD | 2.04 | 1.72 | 1.31 | 0.85 | 0.53 | 0.32 | 0.2 | 0.07 |
Corrected OD | 1.97 | 1.65 | 1.24 | 0.78 | 0.46 | 0.25 | 0.13 | - |
| Repeatability
Intra-assay Precision (Precision within an assay):CV% < 10%; Inter-assay Precision (Precision between assays):CV% < 10%| Recovery
The recovery of Pig FE spiked at three different levels in samples throughout the range of the assay was evaluated in various matrices.Sample Type | Range(%) | Average Recovery(%) |
Serum(n=8) | 84-101 | 96 |
Plasma(n=8) | 93-105 | 102 |
Tissue Homogenates(n=8) | 96-108 | 105 |
| Linearity
Samples were spiked with high concentrations of Pig FE and diluted with Universal Diluent to produce samples with values within the range of the assay.Serum(n=4) | Plasma(n=4) | Tissue Homogenates(n=4) | ||
